The Secret Pocket Garden
Gardens have no doubt always been a great escape from reality. Just look at the movie The Secret Garden! It was a beautiful safe place for Mary Lennox and her friends to escape the judgement of the world just outside the garden gates. The garth, being abandon for ten years, was still very beautiful, and it was actually quite big. Everyone should have a safe place, weather it be under the covers, inside the headphones, or behind a picture. Well, you can create a small safe place (that you can't enter for obvious reasons), and whenever you look at it, you can feel or dream a small sense of escape with your Secert Pocket Garden.
Supplies
You will need:
- A cork bottle
- Dirt
- Water (optional if your dirt is moist)
- Foliage
- Miniature tools (you can use any garden asset)
- Resin (optional)
If you do not have access to these tiny tools, then you can use:
- Clay (polymer clay if you plan on baking it)
- Toothpicks
Solid Ground
Every garden needs solid foundation, so take out the dirt, foliage and, water if your dirt is sand. Mix the dirt and water until the consistency is to your liking. Sprinkle foiliage in the mixture when the dirt is ready. Pour the dirt into the cork bottle an sprink more greenery on top of the dirt.
Building the Building Blocks
If you already have miniature tools, you can skip this step these steps. I will show how I made a sledgehammer, and reply to the comments if you want any other tools made. Shape a small piece of clay into a sphere. Place it on a smooth surace and roll it into a cylinder. Take a toothpick, and cut off both ends if they are double pointed. Stick the toothpick in the center of the clay. If you want to bake this, use polymer clay and wet the toothpick before placing it in the oven.
Building the Garden
Take the tool(s) and place them inside of the cork bottle. Sprinkle more foliage on the tools. You can put some dirt on them too, as the secret garden was abandoned or about ten years most things would be buried. Once that is done, you can place resin in the cork bottle and put the lid on if you can. I chose not to set my little pocket garden in resin incase I wanted to add any more tools. There you have it! Take it, lock it and put it in your pocket!
