The One Dollar Magnetic Screw Pick-up

$30 for a magnet??? NOT ON MY WATCH!!

As a geek, I am always working on things, and always dropping screws and small parts,

and you stare at the floor trying to find out where that sucker rolled.

A magnetic wand, is great, but not a lot of real estate to pick up things, and sometimes

you spill screws and parts and need something more VERBOSE.

The $1.00 Magnetic Screw Pick-ker Upper.

It's really a simple thing to make, First you start with magnets harvested from a hard drive.

INSTRUCTABLES has many many great video's how to do that, I am going to assume you have already pulled out the magnets or just bought one.

THINGS FOR THIS PROJECT:

  1. Empty can (I used a corn can, I am eating the corn while writing this instructable!) (YUM)
  2. Long nail, or long screw, or threaded rod
  3. Epoxy
  4. Slightly smaller then the can Lid from a jar.

The cost is minimal, I used stuff around the house, you can get fancier with a long threaded rod, and a handle.

OK, I LIED -- $2.00

I realized that the opening picture, is a guy holding a magnetic pickup on a stick, and in the interest of honesty I went and bought a plastic broomstick at the .99 store -- and added it to this Instructable.
