The Lost City of Atlantis (#tinkercad)

Untitled 28.png

This is a representation of the Lost city of Atlantis, if it existed. (The theme is taken from KOTLC)

Ultimately this 3D model was done in Tinkercad, with the goal of creating a fictional city, and also to create a beautiful diorama. I hope you enjoy this design! (Since this was for a speed challenge, the steps are not in as much detail as I would like, however I believe there are enough steps for anyone with a little knowledge of the Tinkercad editor to recreate this scene! :) Happy tinkering!

Supplies

You will need a strong computer, with decent internet, as well as some basic Tinkercad literacy :)

Build a Rock

Untitled.png
Untitled 2.png

Building a good looking rock in the Tinkercad editor is actually a whole lot easier than it looks! While yes, this rock took me many attempts to perfect, and it features prominently in many of my designs, all you must do is take a cylinder, and add a bunch of random holes around it, then group! (as seen in the picture) You can get a pretty decent rock with little to no effort.

The Rock Face

Untitled 3.png

The rock face is a whole lot harder than just the rock... but not that difficult once you determine what you are trying to accomplish. If you've ever seen any of my 3D scenes, you will recognize that I made a completely new rock face for this one. This rock face is my favorite, because I believe it flows better with a waterfall type scene.

To create it, simply take the rock from the previous step, cut it, stretch it, and duplicate it multiple times until you get the shape you desire. This step takes the most trial and error, but ultimately the end result can be used over and over again!

Leafy Greens

Untitled 4.png
Untitled 5.png

Leafy greens are very easy. To create this "bush" simply go to the scribble tool, and scribble down something as seen in the first picture... yes my scribbles are no where near as good as "Scrribblemania" and several other Tinkerers, but you don't have to be perfect to create a decent leafy green. After you have your scribble, all you need to do is duplicate it repeatedly, and rotate it slightly until you get a bush like shape as seen in the second picture. :)

Little Arch 1

Untitled 6.png
Untitled 7.png

The little arch is the first main building block to the entire structure. To begin, cut the middle in half with a roof shape and a cube, to create the center arch. It should end up like the second picture.

Little Arch 2

Untitled 8.png

The next section is the roof. To create the roof take two cubes, make the top one a little bit larger than the bottom one, take two 3/8 cubes, and cut out a little indention in the bottom cube as the picture shows. Lastly take 4 spheres and cut the top into an arch with 4 oval indentions in the top. Just like the picture shows.

Little Arch 3

Untitled 10.png

the decorations are the easiest part to make. Simply take a tube, and duplicate 8 cubes inside of it to create a pizza shape. :)

Little Arch 4

Untitled 9.png

The roof, take a roof shape, and another roof shape, put them opposing end to end, and group them. The cut off the excess material with a tube shaped hole, and there you go! add the spike with a couple of cylinders. :) very simple.

Little Arch 5

Untitled 12.png

add all the parts together and you should have something like this!!!!

Big Arch

Untitled 11.png

Take a small arch and add another set of pillars to either end. stretch the roof, and there you go!

Tower 1

Untitled 13.png

Tower one is very simple, just like the small arch take the base and cut out an arch shape, however do not go all the way through the cube. Also erect pillars on each of the four corners, toped by pyramids.

Tower 2

Untitled 14.png

Also very easy, just add cylinders to the inside of the arch!

Tower 3

Untitled 15.png
Untitled 16.png

Add a second layer to the tower, make it a little bit smaller than the first layer. Cut out two window openings per side, and add pillars to each of the four corners. end result is in the second picture.

Tower 4

Untitled 17.png
Untitled 18.png

Add a third layer to your tower, and top it off with a larger, but flatter base cube. cut a smaller window aperture into this layer, but only one per side as shown.

Untitled 19.png

Add the roof, (the same one you made for the little arches, and there you go! :) tower complete!

The Castle 1

Untitled 20.png

What you may not realize, is that the castle, (apart from the top layer) is made of parts you have already completed! simply create the bottom layer with five little arches without their roofs, and add pillars to the ends like on the tower.

The Castle 2

Untitled 21.png

The Castle's second layer is just the first layer of the tower! add five base tower layers to the top of your little arches, and there you go! you have a complete second layer! (do scale them down a bit though on the z axis. :)

The Castle 3

Untitled 22.png

Just add the second layer of the tower to each of the two corners, and add a pyramid roof! simple!

The Castle 4

Untitled 23.png

Now its a little more detailed, but still easy, first go to the shape generator, then go to the all tab, and find the brick wall. subdivide it a few more times, and add it as the third layer. add the top as show, just use 4 cubes, and there you go! remember water will be flowing out of the top, so you want to make it at an angle so the water can flow free! (assuming it was real) then top it off with a flat roof!

The Castle 5

Untitled 24.png

Now its time to build the top layer! Notice that in the foreground there is a little arch with a pyramid roof. (simple you've already made it) then in the back there is a cube with a bunch of little windows! since you have already made the windows, simply cut them into a cube, and you're all set! just add the roof (which you've also already made :)

Castle End

Untitled 25.png

Put them all together and you should get something like this! :)

The Water

Untitled 26.png

The water is also very easy to create. its just a long cylinder, a small cylinder and a bent tube, put together end to end as shown. Make it a transparent light blue. Duplicate more of these and make them a transparent light purple.

Falls

Untitled 27.png

It should looks something like this.

The Entire Structure!

Untitled 28.png
atlantis.png

This part is much more difficult. now you must add all the structural parts, the bushes, and the water to your already built rock face. If you've been adding the parts as you go along you probably already have a head start, but go ahead and do that now if you haven't. should end up something like this! :)

RENDER!!!!

atlantis.png

Export your Atlantis to Blender, Maya, or Fusion 360 and render out all the parts!!!!! have a blast with it! enjoy! :)

This last step is optional as I was mainly showing you how to make it.. but I mean... go for it! don't hold back! :)
