The Constructable Instructable Game
It's Fun!
It's Easy!
It's . . . THE CONSTRUCTABLE INSTRUCTABLE GAME!
Be the first to complete your robot, and . . . YOU WIN! But . . . the roll of the die may cost you a piece!
I wanted a game that would be easy to learn, had family appeal, had a challenging aspect, and would be easy to make (and if it had something to do with instructables.com, that would be a plus). Sooooo…..came up with an idea, tried it out on some friends...and changed it. Finally, it's time to make and learn . . .THE INSTRUCTABLE CONSTRUCTABLE GAME!
Supplies
Paper or light cardstock--Cardstock is more durable. The heavier the cardstock, the more likely for a printer to smear the graphics.
Scissors--Cut carefully. Children should have adult supervision.
Designer Hole Punch (Optional)--You can cut out the Game Pieces with scissors, or use a large hole punch.
Glue or tape--Used to make a Constructable die. Glue makes a neater seal than tape, and Tacky Glue makes the best seal.
One (1) six-sided die or a Constructable die--A "die" is half a pair of dice. A Constructable die can be made from Game Pieces and Die download.
PRINT IT!
Three downloads make up the game--The Gameboard, The Game Pieces and Die, and the Rule Sheet.
The game is designed for 2-4 players, but it can be expanded by printing more Gameboards and Game Pieces
For two players, print one (1) Gameboard sheet (which makes Two (2) Gameboards), one (1) Game Piecs/Die sheet (which makes thirteen (13) Game Pieces and one (1) Die), and one (1) Rule Sheet.
For each two (2) players you wish to add, print one (1) Gameboard sheet and one (1) Game Piecs/Die sheet... unless you want everybody to have their own Rule Sheet.
BUILD IT!
The Gameboard--Cut the Gameboard sheet in half to make two (2) Gameboards...unless you want to sit really close to your opponent.
The Gamepieces--Cut out the Gamepieces. The easiest way is to cut them out as squares. If you have a Pattern Hole Punch large enough to cut out the Gamepieces, go ahead! It is also possible to place a circle over the pieces, draw around its edge, and cut out perfect circles, but do you really want to go to all that trouble? It's just a game!
The Constructable Die--Cut the outside lines of the die. Fold the flaps. Glue the flaps to construct your Constructable Die (You can tape it together, but I think glue makes it look better). If making your own die doesn't work for you, you can use a regular six-sided die...but I think the Constructable Die looks cuter.
PLAY IT!
HOW TO PLAY
1. Each player gets a Constructable board and a set of Constructable parts.
2. Players roll the die. Highest number starts play, and turns follow to the right.
3. For each turn, the player rolls the die.
a. If the player DOES NOT HAVE a piece on that number of their board, a playing piece is placed on that number of their board.
b. If the player HAS a piece on that number of their board, that piece is removed from their board.
4. Play continues until one player wins by completing their Constructable.
Variation #1
Set a time limit: 5-minutes, 10-minutes, when the first player falls asleep on their playing board….Player with the most complete Constructable wins. If multiple players have the same high number of pieces on their boards, play continues for those players until one player has more numbers covered at the end of a round.
Variation #2
Set a number of rolls as a limit…. Player with the most complete Constructable wins. If multiple players have the same high number of pieces on their boards, play continues for those players until one player has more numbers covered at the end of a round.
WIN IT!
Have fun!
