Bending Copper (Homopolar Motor)

If you want to know how to build a homopolar motor, then you have come to the right place!!!! Follow these step by step instructions to be successful.

Collect Your Materials.

Start by collecting your materials:

1 AA Battery

5 small magnets (fits on battery)

Copper wire (make sure not insulated)

Bend Your Wire

Bend into a heart shape, with one side slightly curved (and slightly longer than the other)

Keep in mind only one side has to touch, but one side HAS to touch or it won't work. That's why you will bend one side, so it touches the magnets.

Put Together Motor

  • Place magnets on flat side of magnet (minus side)
  • Balance the indented point of heart on the bump of the positive side
  • Make sure the longer side of the copper wire is bent at the end so it will hug the magnets
  • THE OTHER SIDE SHOULD NOT TOUCH
