This Instructable shows you a new way of repurposing obsolete technology to make a cool looking fridge magnet that can also be used as a wall decoration/stud finder.

The component we are looking for is the Stepper Motor coil assembly.

Start by releasing the plastic clips with a screwdriver or some other tool such as a paper clip etc.
Separating the metal covers is made easy with the tool I posted previously, alternatively you can use any slim prying tool . Once you have the covers off, you will need a #0 philips screwdriver and a #1-2 philips screwdriver to expose the stepper motor.

Use a Flat/Standard Screwdriver to remove the top of the stepper motor. Make sure you are carefull to stay away from the stepper coil assembly as you pry the cover away. I find that the cover and the Circuit board has to be destroyed to remove it.

The First picture shows that the circuit board has been broken. This picture also shows that the stepper coil cover assy has been destroyed . In the second Picture you can see where the #0 philips screwdriver is needed. Pic. #3 shows the Stepper coil assy. on it's own.

There will be three thin enameled wires that connect the Coil assy. to the circuit board. Tear the coil assy. away from the circuit board. Then add a high powered magnet to the center and stick it wherever you want.
