As you all might know, there three types of famous pi(e)'s - The mathematical number pi (π) which is equal to 3.141159265... , the Raspberry pi single board computer and of course the delicious dessert pie.

I was thinking of making something which uses all the three pi's, and i got this cool idea to make a sketch of the inventors of pi the number which was first calculated by Archimedes of Syracuse (287–212 BC), and the inventor of the raspberry pi single board computer Eben Upton sitting and eating some delicious pie!

Supplies

  • 200 GSM Paper
  • Mechanical Pencil
  • Reference Photo of Archimedes and Eben Upton
  • HB Pencil
  • 2B Pencil
  • 4B Pencil
  • 6B Pencil
  • or you can just get a set of drawing pencils.

To start sketching, we will need a reference image of Archimedes -the first person to calculate the correct value of pi and Eben Upton -the inventor of raspberry pi.

I will be using the images shown above.

Make the Outline for the Sketch

First we must make a basic outline for our sketch using the reference photos.

I recommend that you use a HB pencil to draw the outline. In this step, don't draw the details, just draw the basic structures like posture, shape etc..

Once the outline is done, it should look like the above image.

Start Shading

Now that you are done with the outline, you can start shading the drawing using a HB, 2B and a 4B pencil.

Make sure that you apply the pressure on the pencil properly and shade using the right pencils at the right places, like use HB pencils for light areas and 4B pencil for the dark areas.

Once it looks something similar to the picture above, you can move to the next step.

Shading Almost Done

Now that we are done with the basic shading, we can shade it more using the drawing pencils.

Shade Eben Upton's shirt, the table top and the pumpkin pie.

Once it looks like the image above, you can go the the next step where I add the final details.

Done!!!

Now In this step, we are going to shade the final details, like the pumpkin pie. And write the name of Eben and Archimedes beside them.

Once that is done and it looks like the above picture.....that's it its complete

There are things related to all 3 pi(e)'s in this sketch.....Pumpkin Pie on the table top, Eben Upton founder and inventor of the Raspberry pi single board computer and Archimedes -the first person to accurately calculate the value of the mathematical number pi π accurately.
