Hello, we are Mario Fradera and David Grothe, two students from Elisava, with the aim of creating a completely new Halloween experience.

In this project we can see an interactive toy, with which we can learn more about electricity and its capabilities.

the broom has been designed to be a 100% immersive experience in the world of magic and electricity, and all its possibilities when developing this type of projects.

Supplies

  • Arduino Uno (x1)
  • Drone engine (x1)
  • RGB led (x6)
  • Arduino buzzer (x2)
  • Resistance 240 Ohms (x5)
  • Transistor 2n2222 (x1)
  • 3D printed/ cardboard struture components (x1)
  • 1.20 meter wooden stick (x1)
  • Decoration leaves and sticks
  • 3 colors cable (x3)
  • 5 meter wire (x1)
  • 9 volt battery (x1)

Broom Structure

Captura.PNG

The first step is to assemble the structure in which the Arduino is mounted, and all the wiring, we will use this structure as the base support for the entire project. These pieces can be 3d printed or cut from cardboard.

Mount it as shown in the video and picture.

3d PRINT:

  • 2f (x1)
  • 3f (x1)
  • 4f(x4)

Rgb Led Wiring

Captura1.PNG

Once you have the structure assembled you can start installing the wiring of the 6 rgb leds, with their proper resistance (220Ohm)

Follow the reference image for the installation of the leds

The leds within the program go through a sequence of colors, with a fade effect, of orange, red and warm tones, making a reference to the fire

PIN organization:

  • GND - GND
  • Red - pin 11
  • Green - pin 10
  • Blue - pin 9

Buzzers Assembly

Captura2.PNG

With this 3 step we are ready to install the buzzers, so that they reproduce a song based on tones.

In a buzzer we find 3 pins (GND, pin, VCC).

We will join the buzzers in parallel, and we will put a 220Ohm resistor on the pin, so that the song can be heard correctly.

PIN organization:

  • GND - GND
  • Vcc - 5v
  • pin - pin 5

Motor Assembly

The last component of our project consists of a motor in the lower part of the broom, which rotates to spread powders that will be on the fur of the broom, to give a sensation of magic to the person who uses it.

For the assembly of the motor we need a transistor to reach the desired speed of rotation.

The mounting of the motor is not very complicated it has, positive negative cables, the negative is the GND, while the positive reaches the transistor and then a pin, which feeds the motor of energy.

We will need to re-3d print a part for this step, a part that holds the motor on the end of our wooden stick

PIN organization:

  • GND - GND
  • pin - pin 7

Interactive Part

This is possibly the simplest assembly of the entire project, since it consists of wrapping two wires around the wooden stick so that they do not touch each other and laying a cable that reaches the Arduino at the base.

These two coiled wires serve to close the circuit and make the project do all its magic, that is why we say that it is an interactive toy, because it is activated only by holding the two wires at the same time.

PIN organization:

  • first cable - GND
  • second cable - pin A0

Finishes

To finish, connect all the cables where it is due in the place where we have previously informed you, upload the final code to Aruino, add the 9volt battery, and decorate the broom as much as you want, leaving the leds exposed so that its light can be appreciated.

Conclusion

This project is a highly recommended way to improve your electronic skills by applying new knowledge, which you may not have known before, such as using your body as a means of using the toy, this factor gives added value to the project by offering a totally immersive experience
