The Effect of the Closing of the Saudi International Borders on the Populations Mental Health
The main purpose of my project is finding and researching how did the closing of the Saudi Arabian international borders during the current Covid-19 pandemic effect the morale and mental health of the citizens of the kingdom? and whether the effect was positive or negative?
My Hypothesis
I believe the closing of the borders has caused some of the kingdoms citizens to become depressed as they don’t have the freedom to leave the country and go on a trip for either business, leisure or just visiting relatives and that it had a mild effect on the mental health of Saudi citizens.
The Variables in the Experiment
In the survey, the respondents are dependent variables and the questions are independent variables. I can choose what the questions will be, giving me control over them making them the independent variables. The ways in which the respondents behave in the survey depend on the questions making it an independent variable. Meanwhile for the controlled variable that is the ratio of surveyees to answers.
My Background Research
This year, American Express released its poll results after surveying 2,000 American customers that are considered “general population travelers” with a household income of $70,000 a year or more. The survey found that nearly half (48 percent) of respondents felt that not being able to travel makes them feel “anxious and stressed.” And, three in four consumers (78 percent) noted that traveling is “one of the top activities they miss the most right now.”

Data Gathered
Data Analysis
From the data I gathered, I can see that most people have a problem with the borders closing but they do know the importance of them closing in terms of the health of the kingdoms citizens, with a mixed mental effect of either being unfazed by the situation or some experiencing various levels of depression from normal to severe.
The Results
The results I have gathered are that, most people wish for the borders to be opened, most people want the borders opened so that they may be able to travel abroad, most people want the borders reopened with a few wanting them to stay closed mostly due to issues related to keeping covid out of the country. Finally, the most this has taken on the sample audience’s mental health was causing some depression and boredom amongst them due to lack of travel.
The Conclusion
In conclusion, most of the Saudi population understands why the borders have been closed and agrees with the cause, but are upset at the fact that they are not allowed to travel abroad causing minor depression and border among the population with very limited severe cases
Applications and What I Learned
The results of this project can provide some help to the kingdom to understand the mentality and needs of the kingdom, as well as providing an insight into what the citizens of the kingdom value deeply. As for me, this project has helped show me how people crave what they cannot have such as in this case travelling and in general a look into how the human mind works.
