The Easiest Fall Wreath Ever (A No-sew, No Glue Project)

I went for a walk in a park with my Little One and the crisp air, the blue blue sky, and gorgeous, full trees were just starting to show hints of autumn. LO picked up some leaves that had already fallen and we drove home, happy, refreshed, and filled with a calmness only brought on by a walk with a loved one.

Once we got home, LO wanted to decorate for Fall, so we did! LO made some drawings (that aren't finished yet, so LO asked me not to post them) and I made this!

It's simple, uses things you probably have on hand, and best of all...requires no sewing or even glue!

We hope you like it, and would love to see how our creation inspires your creations!

I really just looked in my scrap box for things I could use. My wreath form was leftover from Christmas last year and small (about 20cm in diameter), but it ended up better that way because I didn't have much yarn on hand in the colours I wanted. The ribbon I "borrowed" from the LO, but he was all right with it.

  • Yarn (in the colors of your choice)
  • scissors
  • straight pins
  • Styrofoam wreath form
  • ribbon (optional)
  • fake (or dried) fall flora

The Wrap

This is the most time consuming and slightly tedious part. But once it's done, it's on to the decorating!

  1. Using the first color, start wrapping the yarn around the wreath form. Hold the end, and wrap the yarn around it, so it's secure. It doesn't have to be perfect! If you want to go back to fill in spots, try to cross the yarn on the same side every time, so you'll end up with a back and front. (the lines crossing on the back).
  2. I left spaces at both ends of the orange yarn to be able to sort of blend the colors together
  3. Take the second color, and wrap the loose end of the orange and the starting end of the brown yarn, securing both at one time.
  4. Continue until the whole wreath is covered.

The Embellishments

Now it's time to decorate!

  1. This part is easy! Arrange your floral embellishments as you would like them, then wrap the ends together with whatever string or yarn you have. (It doesn't really matter, you'll be covering it up with a ribbon later!)

The Bow

Making the ribbon is fun and I felt like a really accomplished something after making it! It is kind of tricky though, and took me a couple of tries to get it right. Don't give up!

  1. Fold the ribbon in half, making a crease, then unfold it. (Pic1)
  2. Fold one end of the ribbon to the crease in the middle. (Pic2)
  3. Then fold that over itself. (Pic3)
  4. Flip it over (Pic4).
  5. Fold the free end, not folded, diagonally downwards. (Pic5)
  6. Flip it over again. (Pic6)
  7. Fold the edges of the stem of the "T" into the middle. (Pic7)
  8. Pinch the top of the "T", and wrap the stem around the middle of the pinched area. (Pic8)

Once all your embellishments are prepped and ready to go, it's time to put them on that awesome wreath you made!

Since you're using pins, if your not satisfied with how it looks, just take it out and pin it somewhere else!

  1. I pinned the main embellishment, then pinned some fake, fall-coloured leaves over the wrapped part. What do you think?

The Bow

I pinned the bow underneath the middle straight through as many layers as I could.

Sometimes the pin went through the back, so I had to reposition it a couple of times to make sure it would stick out and scratch the wall or door I hung it on.

  1. It's not pictured here, but I cut the ribbon down the middle (see the final picture) so the bow could have two ends. It started to unravel, so I also melted the edges (be careful! Some ribbon material doesn't melt, but burns! Make sure your ribbon material is one that can melt if you want to use that method of ensuring the material doesn't come apart)

The Hanging Loop

Pin a ribbon to the back, or tie a string around the top of the wreath so you can hang it somewhere!

The Door!

I think we'll take off the leaves and add some pumpkins or other Halloween-y decor to the wreath later.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments!

The LO and I can't wait to see your creations, too!
