The Dark Knight Side Lamp

Sometimes kids are afraid of the dark and who is better at protecting them from the Dark Night himself?

The goal here is to make the Dark Night as bright as it can be before bedtime and gradually reduce light intensity till is dim enough to no not mess with our child's sleep.

  • ws2812b led strip
  • Wooden hexagon cutouts
  • wires
  • 3d printer for the board enclosure and for the Dark Night symbol

  • measure your defuser length on the 3D-printed inlay
  • insert your led strip in the defuser
  • solder wires to control the led strip

Currently, I am using hexagon cutouts so the shape of the backplate is entirely up to us.

Flash the Controller and Make the Connections

We can flash our controller by following the instructions provided in https://install.wled.me/

Solder the wires connecting the controller and LEDs.

Month the case for D1 mini to the backplate.

Configuration

In my case, I wanted to gradually reduce the intensity of the lights during the night.

To tackle this I used a copple of presets with reduced intensity in conjunction with triggers on time.

Final Words

Quick and easy project that I made with the kids.

Other ideas that can be used here are using other inlays with different characters maybe Sonic can look cool in this setup.
