The Cat-Sock, the Perfect Fluffy Friend

IMG_20230411_172612_01.jpeg

The cat-sock, which is my own design, inspired from a video I watched on YouTube, which featured animals like bunnies and dogs, is a mini stuffed animal that serves as a travel companion for its owner. Since its size allows it to be carried anywhere, it can be used for many things. Those who have used the cat-sock have expressed happiness towards the product. The cat-sock comes in various colors and is customizable depending on socks bought. The cat-sock is also a great DIY project for anyone to complete.

Supplies

What You Need

  • 1 sheet of black felt
  • 1 pair of scissors
  • 1 tube of fabric glue
  • 1 pack of googly eyes
  • 1 pair of socks
  • 1 sewing kit
  • 1 sharpie
  • 1 poly-fit fiber filled bag of stuffing

Be sure to have these materials in front of you at all times while making your cat-sock.

Socks

Grab a pair of socks and lay them on a flat surface. Flip over the sock so the heel is facing upward. Press down on the flap of the sock and draw a line with your sharpie for where you want to cut off the sock. This will be the body of your cat-sock.

Sewing

Grab the sewing kit and take out a sewing needle and white or brown thread, depending on your preference. Take a piece of thread and attach it to a sewing needle. Be careful when handling the sewing needle because it is sharp and can cut skin. When looking at the length of the thread, measure out from the mouth to arms length. Tie a knot at the end of the thread to ensure no separation of thread from sock, making sure the two are held well together.

Socks, Stuffing, and Sewing

Once the previous steps are completed and the materials are laid out, cut out the sock, following along where the line with sharpie is drawn. This should be completed in one movement. Grab a handful (or more) of the stuffing and insert it in the sock. It should be fluffy, yet a bit firm when being pushed. Then, grab your needle sew along the line where you cut, closing the line.

Gather Other Materials

After completing the 3 steps, gather your googly eyes, felt, scissors, sharpie, and fabric glue.

The Eyes

Gather the googly eyes and fabric glue and place them on the cat-sock, on opposite ends, horizontally, at equal distance from one another. They should be approximately 2.5 inches apart from one another.

Cut Out Your Felt

IMG_1513.jpeg

Take your piece of black felt and cut out a fingertip-length piece of black felt in a triangle shape.

The Nose

IMG_1511.jpeg

Directly below the eyes, attach the triangle piece of black felt below the eyes, the two outer points of the nose lining up with the eyes, and the last point facing downward. To finish off attaching your nose, either sew this on or use your glue to do this.

Whiskers

Take your sharpie and draw three whiskers in straight lines, on either side of the nose.

Mouth

Below the nose, draw two crescent-moon shaped mouths on your cat-sock.

Review Your Cat-sock

Be sure to review how your sock looks before the final product is finished. Then, if you need, go back and complete a step you are not confident on. Once finished, place all materials away and cuddle your fluffy friend.

Done!
