This is mine and Bridget Falkenhayn's Assistive Tech Project for Professor Gallaugher's Physical Computing course. The aim of this project was to create something for Boston College's Campus School. We created The Campus School Carnival as a game for students at the Campus School.

Supplies

• 1/8" birch wood board for laser cutting as well as access to a laser cutter

• 1/8" acrylic for box to hold parts

• Adober Illustrator for laser cutter template

• Super glue, wood glue, double stick tape

• NeoPixel LED strand

• Circuit Playground Bluefruit

• Speaker with jack

• 1-2 accessible switches with adaptive wiring for CPB

• Black and yellow paint

Creating the Game on the Laser Cutter

First, after meeting with Jen, we designed the concept for our game and used the laser cutter to make it. Our goal was to create a game that would allow the users' to practice using switches in an interactive and enjoyable way.

Finding the Sounds

Adding effects to the game, like sounds, was an important part of this project as they are accessible to the students and make the game more engaging.

How We Determined the Colors to Use and Win/lose

This was a key part of this project. We chose yellow balloons against a black background for the highest level of visibility for the students. For our lights, we have them light up red and yellow for the same reason. For the users, pushing the switch successfully 5 or more times is a win in and of itself, so we wanted sounds and lights to affirm this with each turn. This is also why we chose that there is no winning to the game per se, but instead wins along the way.

Since it's a two player game we have the lights change color depending on which switch was pressed. We also included misses in our game so not every turn leads to a balloon pop.

Programming the Game

Using the details mentioned above, we finalized our working code for the game.
