For this chocolate chip recipe, you will need to gather the following supplies...

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar ( packed down in the measuring cup )
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 whole sticks of unsalted butter ( at room temperature, one stick can work depending on the consistency wanted )
  • 3/4 teaspoon of iodized salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Tools:

  • One or two measuring cups
  • One small bowl for mixing
  • One medium sized bowl for mixing
  • Mixer machine ( not necessary, but it'll save you an arm workout! )
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • A baking sheet ( grease with cooking spray or butter, or you can just use parchment paper!)
  • Sealed container ( for storage of your freshly baked cookies! )

Mixing the First Set of Dry Ingredients

First, you will combine 2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and about 3/4 teaspoons of salt in a small bowl for mixing. Make sure the bowl is large enough after combining these 3 ingredients to add more ingredients later on. After you add these ingredients, whisk these dry ingredients together for a few seconds to create a mixed appearance.

Adding More Ingredients to the Mix

Next, in a separate bowl you will proceed by mixing 2 sticks of unsalted butter ( make sure the butter is at room temperature ), 1 cup of light brown sugar, and 1 cup of granulated sugar. You will then combine the dry mixture you made in the first step to the bowl containing the butter and sugars. After adding these ingredients, you can take out your mixer-machine ( or mix by hand ) and beat the ingredients on a medium-high setting until you create a light & creamy appearance, for approximately 3 minutes.

Continue Making Your Dough

The next group of steps includes adding in 2 whole eggs (yolks and whites) and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the mixture you just created in the last step. Mix these ingredients in by beating on a low-setting with your hand-mixer. You will continue to beat on a low-setting until the mixture appears evenly combined.

Make Your Mixture More Like Dough

Next, add in 2 cups of flour in small parts to the mixture you just altered in the last step. You will mix these ingredients together on a low-setting until they appear combined. Once they are clearly combined, you need not mix more. On to the next step!

Make Your Dough Taste Like Chocolate

Now, you will be adding some chocolate chips to your dough. Add about 1 1/2 cups of semisweet chocolate chips to the dough mixture. Mix/fold the chocolate chips in until they appear consistent throughout the dough.

Cool Your Dough

Next, you will need to chill your dough. Put your cookie dough in the refrigerate for about 20 minutes ( this helps to make the dough firmer and produce the right amount of chewiness in your cookies ).

Heating It Up

Now, you need to pre-heat the oven to 350°F or 177°C. While you are waiting for the oven to heat to the desired temperature, you can start to grease your cookie sheet/pan with butter or cooking spray, or just line the sheet with parchment paper cut to the size of the cookie pan.

Forming the Cookies

IMG-3536.jpeg

Then, you will take your chilled-dough out of the refrigerator ( with the cookie sheet and oven prepped ) and scoop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the cookie sheet. You will put these evenly-sized dough balls onto the cookie sheet, leaving equal spaces between each ball. Leaving about 3cm or an inch between each cookie-dough ball will leave space for the cookie dough to expand during the baking process.

Oven Time

IMG-3538.jpeg

Once you place the cookie dough on the baking sheet, then you can place them in the oven. Set the oven timer to 9 minutes for a baking time of 9-12 minutes. I suggest starting your timer at a lower number, so you do not burn the cookies and instead have room to add cooking time. You will want to peek at the cookies during the 9-12 minutes to ensure that they have golden-brown edges while the centers of the cookies are still pale & soft. Keep in mind that if you open the oven too often to peek at the cookies, heat will escape and create an imbalance. If possible, try to peek through the glass pane through the door!

Not Getting Baked Anymore

After the timer ends, you can take your deliciously-smelling cookies out of the oven! With the pan, make a quick tap on the counter to deflate the still-rising cookies.

Resist Your Urges

Despite how yummy your newly baked chocolate chips cookies smell, you should wait for the cookies to cool down for about 5 minutes.

Enjoy!
