The Best Apple Pie Recipe!

Everyone has that one dessert stape anytime they go anywhere, in my family that is apple pie. During my high school foods class, we were instructed to make whatever we wanted, and of course, I choose apple pie. Apple pie has to be one of my favorite desserts ever, especially with ice cream. This apple pie recipe has to be the best I have ever had. It is fairly simple with few ingredients and you make everything yourself, the filling and the dough!

Supplies

For the supplies I used:

  • peeler
  • knife
  • food processer
  • cutting board
  • rolling pin
  • tablespoons
  • teaspoons
  • cups
  • pie dish
  • fork
  • brusher
  • cooling rack

Make the Dough!

Here is the recipe for the dough, this recipe makes both the top and the bottom of the pie crust, so no need to double it!

Recipe-

1 cup of Salted butter (cold and cubed)

2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp of salt

2-4 tbs of ice water

Instructions-

1. Place flour and salt in a food processor and pulse a few times to combine. Add COLD cubed butter and pulse until fine crumbs form - you want to see little pieces of butter. Add 1 tbsp of water at a time and pulse until a dough-like consistency form. You do not want your dough to feel wet so only add as much water as you need.

2. Pat dough into a ball shape and cut in half. Set the other half to the side and work on your first half. Roll the first half of the dough out into a 10" circle on a lightly floured surface. Make sure you measure your pie plate because some are 9" or 10". Depending on which size you have, roll your dough out 1" more than your size pie dish to ensure there's going to be enough to go up the sides.

3. Grease your pie plate. Roll your dough up with the help of your rolling pin for an easy transfer. Life the dough over the pie plate and unroll the rolling pin on top. Gently press and smooth the crust down and up the sides until it fits snug in the dish. Place it in the fridge and allow it to chill for at least 30 minutes while you get the rest of your ingredients ready.

Make sure you do not let the dough become too warm and do not add extra flour, it will make it taste bad and affect the pie taste in the end.

Make the Filling!

Here is the recipe and instructions for the filling down below.

Recipe-

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice

1/4 cup corn starch

1/4 tsp cinnamon

2 cups of water

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

5 Granny Smith Apples

1 egg for egg wash

Instructions-

1. Prepare the apple pie filling. Add the brown sugar, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cornstarch, cinnamon, and water to a saucepan over medium heat. Let it come to a boil, then simmer for 2-3 minute

2. Add the apples. Peel and slice the apples into 1/4-inch thick slices and add them to the saucepan.

3. Soften the apples. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 6-8 minutes, or until moderately soft. If the filling is runny, make a cornstarch slurry with some of the liquid and mix it back in to thicken it. Now, let the filling cool.

4. Prepare the pie crust. Roll out the pie dough pieces into circles on a floured surface until they measure 14 inches in diameter. The first circle gets placed on the bottom of your pie dish. Prick it generously with a fork. The other circle should be cut into 12 even strips using a knife (or pastry wheel if you have one).

5. Fill the pie crust. Add the cooled apple pie filling to the bottom pie crust.

Make the Final Design and Bake!

Screenshot 2021-12-16 1.50.36 PM.png

1. Fill the pie crust. Add the cooled apple pie filling to the bottom pie crust.

2. create a design you want ( I did a heart design)

3. Brush the crust with egg wash. Make an egg wash in a small bowl and brush it over the top portion of the pie crust.

4. bake the apple pie for 50 minutes to an hour at 370°F. Keep the edges of the crust covered with a pie crust shield or a piece of foil during the last 30 minutes of baking to protect the crust from browning too much.

Cool and Enjoy!

1. Place the pie on a cooling rack to cool slightly and set before serving.

2. Eat and enjoy, you can serve with Ice Cream, is desired!
