Ingredients:

  • 1 pound cake, this can be store bought or homemade
  • 1 1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream
  • 3/4 cup of powdered sugar
  • Sweetened shredded coconut
  • Green food coloring
  • Strawberry Jell-O
  • Milk chocolate chips
  • White chocolate chips
  • Brown food coloring

Slice the Pound Cake (Bread)

Take the pound cake and slice it about half an inch thick. You'll want to make sure that the cake slice is not too thin, because it will fall apart. If it is too thick, you will lose the bread effect. Once you have sliced the entire cake, discard the very ends of the cake.

Tip: When slicing the ends, you may want to try slicing them off very thin. This will give you a thinner end and you will waste less cake.

Make the Whipped Cream (Mayo)

Pour the heavy whipping cream and powdered sugar into the bowl. With an electric mixer, whip until it is the consistency of whipped cream. Add in just a couple drops of yellow food coloring. This is what will give it the color of mayo. Whip again until it has a thick consistency.

Tip: Before whipping the cream, stir in the powdered sugar. This will prevent the sugar from getting all over the place.

Form the Chocolate (Bacon)

In a double broiler, melt the white chocolate. Add in the brown food coloring and milk chocolate. Make sure that all of the chocolate is melted. On a sheet of parchment paper, spread the chocolate out. Put some spatulas under the parchment paper to create the classic bacon ripple. When it is dry, remove the spatulas and cut the chocolate. It is perfectly okay if some of the pieces break. You can just pick out the best ones!

Tip: If you can't find brown food coloring, no worries! Just mix together seven drops of red food coloring, two drops of yellow, and one drop of blue.

Prepare the Coconut (Lettuce)

Put the coconut into a bowl. Add green food coloring and mix with a whisk.

Tip: If your food coloring isn't getting to all of the coconut, try adding about a tablespoon of water. This will help spread out the dye.

Make the Jell-O (Tomatoes)

Prepare the Jell-O as directed on the box. Pour into a long pan and refrigerate until it is set. Cut out little circles with a small cookie cutter or cup. Sprinkle sesame seeds in the middle.

Tip: Try using less water in the Jell-O than directed on the box. This will make the circles firmer and easier to handle.
