  • 4 Ply Cotton Knitting Yarn 
  • 4 mm Crochet Hook

Round 1:-

Start with a Magic Circle.

12 Double Crochets in the circle.

Pull the yarn end to close the gap.

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

12 Stitches.

Round 2:-

Chain 2.

2 Double Crochets in each stitch around.

Slip stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

24 stitches.

Round 3:-

Chain 2. 1 Double Crochet in the same stitch.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC, 2DC).

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

36 Stitches.

Round 4:-

Chain 2. 

1 Double Crochet each in 2 stitches.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC*2, 2DC)

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

48 Stitches.

Round 5:-

Chain 2. 

1 Double Crochet each in 3 stitches.

2 Double Crochets in the next stitch.

Repeat*(1DC*3 2DC)

Slip Stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

Change color while making the slip stich.

60 Stitches.

If you wish to turn the coaster into a tablemat or placemat, then follow the below mentioned increase pattern:-

Start each round with Chain 2(Not counted as a stitch)

Round 4--DC 2, 2DC in next stitch(48) 

Round 5--DC 3, 2DC in next stitch(60)

Round 6--DC 4, 2DC in next stitch(72)

 .....and so on.

Round 6:-

Chain 5

Skip 2 stitches

1 Single Crochet in the next stitch.

Repeat(Ch5,Skip 2, 1SC)

Round 7:-

Slip stitch into the Chain space. 

Chain 2.

7 Double Crochets.

1 Single Crochet in the next Chain space. Change Color while pulling through the last loop of the Single Crochet..

7 Double Crochets in the next chain space.(carry the first color along with the working yarn. This would make the color change lot easier to work with)

Repeat(7DC, 1 SC(in next space)

Keep alternating the yarn color.

Slip stitch on top of the first Double Crochet.

Change color while making the slip stitch.

Border:-

Chain 1.Not counted as a stitch.

1 Single Crochet each in 4 stitches.

Chain 3 Picot.(i.e. Chain 3 and slip stitch into the bottom stitch)

1 Single Crochet each in the remaining 3 stitches.

Slip stitch into the next chain space.(Insert hook below the whole stitch.)

Repeat((1SC *4, Ch 3 Picot, 1SC*3),1 SL into the next space)

Slip stitch on top of the first Single Crochet and weave off.
