Tetris Board Game

Originally this was how I was going to make my Tetris Quilt Pattern, but on the way there I created this mini board game. This game only takes a couple of minutes to play and complete and can be played competitively against other players. Challenge yourself by changing the amount of pieces available and not skipping through the pile. You can also decrease the amount of time available to complete the board, or make a larger board that might be a different shape.

For this instructable you will need:

Colored Paper (preferably with seven different colors)
White Paper
Scissors
Marker
Ruler

First take your seven sheets of colored paper and grid them. Each square should be about 1 in. x 1 in. so you might need to alter the size of your papers to allow an even grid with whole squares on it.

Next you will make the pieces to your Tetris puzzle. Just in case you are not familiar with the pieces that are normally used in Tetris you can check out the pictures below. Each piece has 4 squares in it and each color is a different shape. Try to make as many pieces from one sheet of paper as you can. Some of the shapes look the same but they are opposites. Once a game piece is in play you can only rotate it, you are not allowed to flip it.

***Suggestion: Make your game pieces pretty, for a more valuable game you can make your pieces out of cardboard and decorate the front of each piece***

Now you can create your game board by taking a white sheet of paper (any size) and making the grid lines on it.


***Suggestion: Draw over your grid lines on your game board with a thicker pen or marker so that they look more attractive. Also try using a piece of cardboard instead of a piece of paper for a longer lasting game board.***

Once all of your pieces are cut out and your game board has grid lines, you can begin! You'll notice that the rules and ways to play are a bit different than how you would normally play on your computer, but I've noticed that it still works.

2 minutes (Preferably timed with a stop watch)
Challenge your friends to beat your score!

How to Play:
1. Jumble up the game pieces in a pile, make sure that you don't have the same pieces over and over again.
2. Take only the game piece that is from the top of the pile, and quickly place it on the bottom of the board. Try to use your space and time wisely. Once a piece is placed, it cannot be removed or put onto another area. Once there is no more room on the board (after you have worked your way from the bottom to the top) the game is over. Count your pieces and record your time.

Scoring:
Once you have reached the top of the board, add the amount of pieces that you have total on the board. This will be your score if you finished at exactly 2 minutes.

If you went over 2 minutes, then you will count the seconds that you went over. One second equals one point subtracted from your final score. Example: You played for 2 minutes and 10 seconds and you had 20 game pieces on the board. Your score will be 20-10=10.

If you finished before 2 minutes was up, then you will add the extra seconds to your score. One second equals one extra point added to your final score. Example: You played for 1 minute and 50 seconds and you had 20 game pieces on the board. Your score will be 20+10=30.
