Tessellation Tiles

The purpose of this project is to create tessellation tiles that will fit together and create different shapes.

The final pieces created will be open to interpretation, so have fun!

Begin Making Equilateral Triangles

  1. Create a new box. Make the base 20 mm x 20 mm. The height should be 5 mm.
  2. Duplicate the box three times. Convert all duplicates from "solid" to "hole."
  3. Align to of the duplicates vertically.
  4. Align The third duplicate horizontally.

Create Triangle Shape

  1. Turn the bottom left square 60°
  2. Turn the bottom right square -60°
  3. Align both rotated pieces, so only their tips are touching
  4. Align the top square with the rotated pieces, and fill in the holes.
  5. Group the pieces
    1. If needed, adjust the top piece, so the holes make a triangle shape

  1. Align the "holes" with the solid square
  2. Group the pieces together

  1. Add a new "box" to the plane
  2. The box's base should be 20 mm x 20 mm, and the height should be 5 mm

Combine Pieces Together to Create Shapes(Example 1)

  1. Align one triangle with one square
  2. Duplicate the triangle
  3. Rotate the triangle 180°, and align it with the other triangle
  4. Group the pieces together
    1. If lines are still showing after grouping, try adjusting individual pieces. They may not be aligned completely

  1. Align one triangle with one square

  3. Rotate the triangle -90°
  4. Align the triangle horizontally with the square
  5. Group Pieces together

  1. Align one triangle with one square

  4. Align the square with the edge of the triangle
  5. Group pieces together

After the desired pieces are created, download the project as a .stl file, and send it to your 3D printer.
