A tensegrity trestle can span an area. Potentially, it could be used to construct a roof of a building.

The outside frame was made from 3 lengths of 3cm by 2 cm of timber, 75 cm long. They were joined to form an equilateral triangle.

Twelve holes for the dowel uprights were made equal distance apart. 15cm length dowels were glued into them.

Screw eyes were attached to these dowels.

The inner structs from 2 layers, making a pyramid. Six structs were used on the first layer with one struct on top layer.

Attaching the String to the Structs

A cable tie was attached to each struct. From these cable ties string was attached between the structs. This allowed fine tightening adjustments to easily be made by tightening the cable ties. This was much easier to do than untying knots and retying them.

Tightening Cable Ties

Once string had been connected between the upright structs, everything was tighten by adjusting the cable ties as required.
