Temporary Pavilion - SkyWeave

Inspirations.png

This project explores the design of a temporary pavilion. Created as a multifunctional gathering space reflecting on the principles of sustainability, lightweight construction, and the beauty of architectural design. It draws strong inspiration from the 2025 Osaka World Expo, where I got to visit and explore many remarkable pavilions. Fittingly, the theme for the expo was also sustainability. Perfectly aligns with the goal of this project.

So the Aim is to create a pavilion that is easy to assemble and dismantle, along with being as sustainable as possible. Meaning using renewable or recyclable materials. Alongside offering a flexible open-air space for events.

Supplies

Paper & Pen

Computer

Drawing software: Sketchbook

3d moddelling software : Fusion 360

3d rendering Software: Fusion 360/3ds Max

3d rendering with ai: I tried using Fabrie Imagine & Chat GPT

Rough Sketches

I first sketch anything that comes to mind when I think of a temporary structure onto my notebook—any idea at all—just to let my imagination run free. When I was stuck and couldn't think of anything, I would do a bit of research and gain inspiration, mainly from other concepts I got from Google or Pinterest.

Choosing an Idea & Consolidation

Once I was happy with an idea, I committed to it and began developing the design. The framed structure with fabric lining and covering it. Furthermore, I also did research on the appropriate materials and the different form factors of the structure. (You can see that in the presentation board) For this step, I drew what I thought the structure could look like. (The one with people in is made by Mr. GPT)

3d Modeling

In this step, I made the internal structure of the pavilion using Fusion 360. Imagining how a structure such as this one could support itself (cuz idk structure engineering :( ). The model is only for the structure without the fabric. While at it I quickly rendered the design.

3D Rendering (tried)

I've never used 3ds Max before, but I gave cloth simulation a try, unfortunately failing miserably, as the cloth just went straight through, crumbling awkwardly. However, it was worth giving a go because the experience was very different from that of Fusion 360, a CAD software. Although, if you want to give it a go, the 3d stl file is below.

With the help of AI, I fed it my concept drawings and gave it prompts to generate a realistic rendering of my pavilion design. And spit out renders they did. > I had no idea that architects didn't always just create 3d models for their concept designs and render. I guess it makes sense now, because that would take way too long. haha

Presentation Board

Creating a presentation board just helps to show all the processes I went through from the initial inspirations to the final rendering of the project. Overall, this was quite an enjoyable project, where I definitely learned a lot.
