Temp Sensitive Antlers!

Santa must also sometimes travel to warm climates to deliver presents. In which case, he must dress appropriately! How can Santa conveniently tell the temperature of a place? The temperature sensitive antlers are an easy to use wearable that allows Santa to get a feel for the temperature of a place and dress appropriately.

Supplies

For this project you will need: A reindeer antler headband, a hat, scissors, a Circuit Playground Bluefruit circuit board, an LED light strip, tape, scissors, a USB connector, a battery pack with batteries, and a USB converter (if your computer does not have a USB port).

Tape Antlers to Hat

Tape your antlers to the hat using any kind of tape. I recommend using duct tape because it's best for ensuring that the antler headband will stick to the hat. I also recommend taping the antler headband a little more than halfway to the bak of the heat so that the headband doesn't fit so tightly around your head.

Add Code to the Circuit Playground Bluefruit Circuit Board

Connect your Circuit Playground Bluefruit circuit board to your compute. Then, attach your LED light strip to the CPB by attaching the red alligator clip to the "VOUT" port, the white alligator clip to the "A1" port, and the black alligator clip to the "GND" port. Then, download the code.py file I've attached to this step and move it on to the "CIRCUITPY" device on your computer. The LED light strip should turn on and start pulsing.

Tape CPB to Hat and Wrap LED Strip Around Hat

IMG_1514.jpg

Detach your CPB from your computer after you've added the "code.py" file to it. Then, tape the CPB to the top of the hat. In the photo, I used duct tape because, again, I think it's the strongest for making it stick to the hat. Wrap your LED light strip around one antler then around the front rim of the hat then wrap it around the second antler. I used electrical tape to tape keep the LED strip taped to the hat, feel free to use whatever tape works best for you. Make sure to not cover the CPB's temperature sensor as indicated by the little thermometer image. Also make sure that the alligator clips remain clipped in. You can also use tape to ensure that the alligator clips remain clipped in.

Attach Battery Pack

Make sure that your battery pack is on "off" or not transmitting electricity. Then, connect you batter pack to the CPB on the top of your hat and clip the batter pack onto the back of your hat. You can 3D print a clip or use adhesive Velcro to keep the battery pack stuck to the back of your hat.

Turn on Battery Pack and Enjoy!

Finally, you can test it out by turning on the battery pack and going outside to see if it changes color! I've attached a video that demonstrates the temperature sensitive antlers working. Enjoy!
