Tee Shirt Flags
Hey all y'all! Happy spring break! I hope you are having a wonderful, relaxing break. Unfortunately, I got the flu so I haven't been posting on Instructables or my blog in about a week. I deeply apologize for how late this is. My family really enjoys watching the CBS show Survivor so I decided to make some survivor inspired flags! There are two different styles, one easy and one hard. The Avengers symbol one is the survivor style flag and the whale shark one is the capture the flag style. Both are fairly simple to make and can be used for a variety of purposes. It would be great for a LARP event or summer camp!
Materials
You will need:
Tee Shirt
Dowels (I got four foot long ones at Home Depot) one for the simple flat, two for the hard flag.
Hot Glue
Iron on Transfer Paper or Fabric Markers
If using a white shirt and you want to color it, you might need some tie dye color.
Cut Out Flags
Cut the tee shirt into two rectangles and hem them if you want. If you're going for a more rugged look then skip that step. If you already have a patterned shirt that you want as a flag then skip the next step too.
Tie Dye!
Twist the rectangle into a spiral and rubber band it. Add the dye of your choice and let it sit overnight. Send it through the washer and dryer and it's ready to use!
Choose Your Design!
Follow the directions for your transfer paper and apply to your flag.
Create Your Flag Poles
For the simple flag simply hot glue your flag onto the dowel. For the more complicated flag, cut one dowel in half and sand the ends. Then hot glue it onto the other dowel. This is simply to hold it in place while you wrap a piece of twine around it. Do that twice and hot glue the flag on. If you wish, you can trim the ends to make it a little neater.
