Tatted Mustache Necklace

I was bored so I designed a tatted mustache necklace. It served no real purpose other than to prove I could do it.

What You'll Need

You will need:
-Size 10 cotton thread in black or I suppose brown
-Size 5 tatting needle or shuttle if you prefer
-Scissors
-Fabric Stiffener, starch or glue & water solution
-About 16" of chain, clasp and jump rings in preferred metal
-Jewelry pliers for attaching chain

You will also need basic tatting knowledge that can be acquired with my other beginning instructables.

Start Tatting

Many Chains

The rest of the mustache is all chains that reverse direction to create the curved lines.

Chain(ch) 15ds cl rw Ch 10 1p 5 cl rw

ch 7 join the thread to the picot you just made by passing the needle through the loop and tying a knot without reversing work
ch 25ds join to picot on the ring cl tie a double knot and hide the thread ends.

Side Two

Join the new thread to the top of the ring where we started to do the second side. Repeat the same stitch counts for the other side.

Once the tatting is done, you will want to press and shape the piece with steam and stiffen to your liking. I use Stiffen Stuff, spray the piece and then press.

Add the Chain

Separate the chain into two equal pieces. Add the chain to either side of the mustache where pictured with jump rings and add a clasp to the other end. You can also tie ribbon to the ends or if you stiffen the piece enough you could also hot glue it to a stick for a hand held disguise.

I have a couple more pictures of this in my etsy listing here.
