It’s super easy to make delicious Tandoori chicken in the air fryer. If you love Indian food you must have come across with Tandoori chicken or Chicken Tandoori. It’s very popular and requires a ‘Tandoor’ which is a special kidn of oven to make this falvourful delicious chicken dish. But if you have an Air fryer at home then give this recipe a try and you will be amazed at the result.
To make this delicious Air fryer chicken tnadoori, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- Chicken – Any Chicken piece can be used but drumsticks and thighs are the most flavourful parts.
- Greek Yogurt – You can use any thick yogurt.
- Salt – Adjust salt according to your taste.
- Paprika – Gives smokey color and flavor to the dish.
- Cayenne – Gives a kick to the grilled meat.
- Turmeric Powder – Gives the traditional flavour to this Tandoori chicken.
- Garam Masala Powder – Is one of the essential spices for this chicken dish.
- Cumin Powder – Skip if you do not have it to hand but flavour might compromise.
- Ginger Garlic Paste – You can either paste or powder. These help eliminate bad odor from poultry.
- Tomato Paste – Adds depth of flavour to the dish.
- Lemon Juice – This will help the chicken become juicy and tender.
- Oil – You can use any mild oil of your choice.
- Food Colouring – Traditionally used for a great Tandoori chicken look. Use either Red or Orange colour.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 Kg Chicken
- 3 Tbsp Greek Yogurt
- 1 tsp Salt
- 2 tsp Paprika Powder
- 3 tsp Cayenne
- 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tsp Garam Masala Powder
- 1 tsp Cumin Powder
- 2 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
- 1 Tbsp Tomato Paste
- 2 Tbsp Lemon Juice
- 3 Tbsp Oil
- 3-4 drops Food Colouring
Prepare the Chicken Drumsticks
- Clean and pat dry chicken pieces and then make some butterfly cuts on them to help marinade spread all over.
Prepare the Marinade
- Make a Tandoori chicken marinade by mixing Greek yogurt, Salt, Paprika powder, Cayenne, Turmeric powder, Garam masala powder, Cumin powder, Ginger garlic paste, Tomato puree and Lemon juice. Mix everything together to make a thick paste.
Marinate the Chicken
- Add the delicious marinade on chicken pieces, ensuring each piece is well coated with the marinade. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for the best flavor.
Cook the Chicken in Air Fryer
- Add oil to chicken and then give a final mix before placing them in the air fryer basket.
- Place the marinated chicken pieces in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd; cook in batches if necessary.
- Air fry the chicken at 390°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through the cooking time to ensure even cooking. The chicken should be cooked through with a slight char on the outside.
Garnish and Serve
- Once cooked, remove the chicken from the air fryer and let it rest for a few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
