"Talia Bright" Infinity Scarf

This infinity scarf is dedicated to a brilliant and talented young woman who was taken too soon. Talia was vivacious, headstrong, witty, intelligent, thoughtful and loved to travel and see new things. This pattern was developed in her honour, and a reminder of the massive way she would flaunt her own individuality when the rules made no sense.

It is knitted flat, and becomes asymmetrical. Then sewn into an infinity loop.

It is a 2 row repeating pattern, with 2 colours. I used Urban Express from Skeinz, but any Worsted yarn can be used. You will need approx 200m of the main colour, and much much less of the contrast.

You will need:
2 Balls Worsted yarn in the main colour, 1/4 ball in contrast. I used Grey and Hot Pink.
6.5mm needles

Textured Pattern:

Row 1: Slip 1, knit 2 together, knit to the last 2 stitches, knit 1 front and back (creating and extra stitch), knit 1 Row 2: Slip 1, knit 2, *Purl 2 together without removing the stitches from the left hand needle, purl just the first of the 2 stitches, slide both off onto the right needle. Repeat this purling 2 motion across to the last 3 stitches (from the *) knit 3.

I made a wee video showing the purling-two-together-bit of the pattern. You will find it here. Do ignore the fact that in the video shows the purling 2 together from the start of the row, rather than 3 stitches in. (and in Row 1 does not show the k2tog or the knit 1 front and back) The video shows the texture pattern, not the actual shaping pattern of this particular scarf.

Starting the Scarf

Cast on 30 stitches in the main colour.

Complete the pattern of Row 1 and Row 2 alternating 45 times (90 rows in total).

Change to the contrasting yarn. Complete Row 1 and Row 2 in contrasting yarn.

Change back to the main yarn. Complete Row 1 and Row 2 in the main yarn.

Change to the contrasting yarn. Complete Row 1 and Row 2 TWICE in contrasting yarn. This is 4 rows (in pink in my images)

Change back to the main yarn. Complete Row 1 and Row 2 in the main yarn.

Change to the contrasting yarn. Complete Row 1 and Row 2 FOUR TIMES in contrasting yarn. This is 8 rows (in pink in my images)

Change back to the main yarn. Complete the pattern of Row 1 and Row 2 alternating 45 times (90 rows in total). Cast off the 30 stitches.

Carefully fold the scarf into a loop making sure you have not twisted it. Using the tail of the yarn, stitch up the cast on and cast off ends of the scarf. (Alternatively you can use a provisional cast on, then complete a Kitchener stitch to join the ends)

Darn in your tails. Wear with pride.
