This is my instructable on sewing a tailor made skirt.

What You Need

Here is what you need to tailor your own skirt

- two different fabrics

- sewing yarn

- a needle or a sewing machine

- a button

Cut the Fabric

First cut the skirt (the big red fabric picture 1)

You have two options.

First Option: You need a square. Find the middle and cut out a circle. The radius (cm) has to be your waist measurement divided by 6.28. Then decide on how long your skirt should be and measure it and add 2.5cm and cut out the outer circle. When you use this method you will have a circle skirt which will be fuller than the second version. Sew the other piece to the big one. You don´t need the button when you use an elastic fabric, your skirt will always fit.

For the second version you need a rectangle. Fold it in half and cut out the inner circle and the outer circle just like in the first method (picture 1).

Now the second fabric (the small white fabric picture 3)

This piece has to be a rectangle as long as the outline of the inner half-circle (picture 2) of your skirt plus 5 cm (+2 inch) and about 15 cm (6 inch) wide.

Now your finished cut fabrics should look like picture 4.

Lay both fabrics left-sided over each other and fix it with pins (picture 1). Make sure the white fabric lays with the two open ends on the outline of the red inner circle and sew these three layers together (picture 2).

Sew the white fabric that the open loops at the ends are closed.

Fold It

When the white fabric is to long fold it in half and sew it again to the inner circle of the red fabric. Make sure that you sew it the way that this cannot be seen from the other side. It should look like picture 3.

Sew the red fabric of the skirt together that you get a tube turn it around and it should look like picture 1, don´t sew the white fabric. There will be a button to hold it together and to adjust it to your waist.

Fold the edge twice at the end and fix it with pin needles or iron the folding line that you can sew a straight line.

Now sew it to make a nice border.

Now you need to add a button and a buttonhole (picture 1 and 2).

Try on the skirt and mark where you need to make the button and the hole.

Sew the button to the inside at one end of the white fabric. This layer will be above the other one, this will make the button invisible (picture 3)

Make a buttonhole on the other end.
