In this instructable, I will be making a tabletop light that can be used to light up anything from puzzles to projects or even books.

Supplies

  • 1 meter LED strip
  • metal saw
  • spoke wrench or flat head screwdriver
  • tinkercad
  • 3D printer
  • hot glue gun (optional)

Remove the Spokes

The first step is to take our rim and remove all of the spokes. For this I used the spoke wrench to loosen them and then the flat head screwdriver to screw them off completely.

Half of a Rim

Next we need to use the metal saw to cut the rim in half. Then sand the cut edges so they aren't rough.

Design the Feet

The next step is to design feet for the rim so it stands up on its own. I used tinkercad to create a simple foot that can be put on the ends of the rim so it will stand.

Next you can print the foot you designed and fit it onto the rim. You may need to use hot glue if the foot slides off

Add Lights

The last step you need to do to complete the project is to attach the LED strip. Use the adhesive on the back of the strip to attach it to the inside of the rim. Then you are all finished with the project!
