TV Stand From Pallets With Secret Compartment

I always wanted to make some furniture item, with secret compartment. This pallet project was very good time to do it.

How I made it and where compartment is - you can check by looking DIY video or you can follow up instructions bellow.

For this build you will need:

Materials:

• 2 pallets (EPAL/EUR type)
• 120 grit sand paper
• 50mm and 80mm wood screws
• Wood glue

Tools:

• Hand saw or circular saw
• Drill
• Counter sink drill bit
• Sander
• Rubber mallet
• Pry bar
• Clamps
• Square

I took two pallets, and cut off necessary parts.
With pry bar and rubber mallet removed two boards and two cubes from each pallet. All surface was sanded down with 120 grit sand paper, - to get nice fresh look.

From some pallet wood leftovers, I made 4 legs, and screwed them in corners.

Made a new layer with pallet cubes and additional board. Screwed board to the cubes, and all this piece was flipped and screwed in to the place. I used 50mm wood screws and screwed in, at 45 degrees angle. Of course pre-drill was needed too.

To attach a top - I made a lot of 45 degrees angle screwing points. Temporarily, I screwed only two screws.

As usual TV stand, it is finished. But I always wanted to make some furniture item, with secret compartment. So, here it goes!

Took off one cube and measured 20mm from all sides. It would be perfect, to use band saw to cut out selected middle part, but because i don't have it - I made it in old school way, with hand saw.

Drilled holes for hinges. To get square hole to surface, I used simple square scrap wood piece, with square line on it.

Hinges made from simple nails, just removed top hats.

To get right place, for hinges mounting point on stand - made simple template ( again, from scrap ).

Set compartment doors in place.
As I mentioned before, a top was attached with many fixing points in 45 degrees angle, and 80mm wood screws. All them was made from bottom - that can't be visible.

Last thing, - glued in place a back side of secret compartment. Clamped and left it to dry.

That's how it looks finished.

Secret compartment size is: 75mm height, 100mm wide and 55mm depth. You can hide here any thing
which will fit in these dimensions.
