TMNT Donatello's Bo Staff

Everyone has their favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. And each TMNT has their own signature weapon. If you're suiting up this Halloween or convention season as Donatello, don't forget his bo staff. Wholesale Halloween Costumes put together this step-by-step guide so that you can DIY your very own Donatello bo staff!

• 1/2” x 4′ tube pipe insulation (found at most hardware stores)
• 1/2” diameter x 4ft wood dowel
• Beige or tan duct tape
• Wood grain duct tape
• Scissors
• Brown marker (optional)

Place the wood dowel inside the of pipe insulation. Don't worry if the dowel is shorter than the insulation. You can stuff crumpled newspaper into the ends to keep the dowel from sliding around.

Seal the ends with the wood grain duct tape.

Cut 3 long vertical pieces of wood grain tape and wrap one half of the pipe insulation, lining up the edges so that they don't overlap.

If there are any edges from where the tape was cut or ripped, use the brown marker to camouflage them.

Repeat this step with the other end of the staff. Don't worry if the ends of the tape don’t meet in the middle.

Cut a piece of tan duct tape about 12” long and fold it in half lengthwise sticking the tape to itself. Do this a few more times with more pieces of tape.

Tape one end of the folded duct tape to the middle of the staff. Wrap the folded tape around the staff, and use more duct tape to secure the end.

Continue to add and wrap the folded tape pieces around the staff to complete the grip.
