TELESCOPIC CAR WASH BRUSH REPAIR

I have purchased a few of these brushes over the years, for washing cars and cleaning conservatory roofs, but they seem to have a weak point at the telescopic sliding joint. After a few months of use, the joint breaks. Since the rest of the brush is fine, the usual fix is to tape the two sections together, but that defeats the object of having a telescopic shaft. Looking around the workshop for a better repair method, I noticed a 25mm to 20mm MDPE pipe reducer. Amazingly, the 25mm end fitted the outer tube of the brush, and the 20mm end only needed drilling out to 22mm for the inner tube. The result is a water-tight joint which still allows the brush to extend telescopically. The new joint is also stronger and more secure than the original. Not a long or highly technical Instructable, but I thought it might help to prevent a few of these £15+ brushes going prematurely to landfill for the sake of a £3 pipe fitting.

Remove the broken joint, buy a new MDPE joint, modify to fit if necessary, then fit it !
