Swedish Art-Inspired Monogram

With some wood cutouts from the craft store and a little paint you can make a one-of-a-kind monogram.

The artwork painted here was inspired by Swedish art called kurbits. Similar to rosemaling.

Materials Needed

To make your monogram plaque you will need

-spray paint

-acrylic paint and brushes

-laser cut wood scrollwork design (I got mine from Michael's)

-textured paper (optional)

-glue

-wood plaque of somesort

-wood bird or decoration

-wood letter

-stick on jewels

For the background color of your plaque you want to use a neutral color like, gray, white or black. Perhaps even a very pale pastel shade.

I used textured paper for my background.

I traced around my plaque onto my paper and cut it out just a little bigger than the wooden plaque.

Then glue the paper onto the wood

Let it dry completely and lightly sand away the edge of the paper so that you are left with a wooden edge.

This just adds texture and a unique edge to the paper. You can also paint the background a solid color instead.

Spray paint your scroll work and letter with at least two coats of paint. Let dry completely.

Glue down your piece of scrollwork and then on top of that your letter.

Once dry, you may begin to add your artwork.

The art is actually simple but it is important to be symmetrical. Small whispy lines and geometric primary-colored flowers look nice.

Some stick on jewels are a nice touch to the final piece.

You can add a picture hanger on the back when your paint is dry.
