Supportive Laptop Stand
This stand was created for a student in a school setting who uses a touch screen chrome book to fulfill school tasks. The student would push too hard on the screen, which then folded backwards. This stand is designed to support the display at a range of angles, yet fold up for storage.
Supplies
Sheet plastic- (x1: 13” x 9.5”), (x2: 13” x 7”)
Piano hinge- x2: 12”
1" Loop sticky back Velcro- x3: 2” in length,
1.25" Hook Velcro- x1: 22” length
Square self-adhesive rubber stoppers- x4
Sheet Plastic and Hinges
Cut one piece of plastic (we used plexiglass, but any sheet plastic will do) to the length and width of the laptop (for ours, we did 13" x 9.5") and two more to create supportive stand behind the screen (13" x 7" for ours).
Smooth edges and round the corners.
Use the piano hinges to join the 3 pieces together. The hinges will be on opposite sides, meaning with it laid out flat, one hinge will be on the top side and the other will be under the plastic.
When the plastic is sitting on the table connected together with the largest piece closest to you, the hinge connecting the it to the next piece should be on the top. This will be the top side.
Velcro and Bumpers
Place two pieces of the velcro with the adhesive backing on the bottom of the large plastic section. Center them left and right and place them close to the front and back edges (looking from the viewpoint of sitting in front of it with a laptop on it). In our design, we made the velcro closest to the front much longer than it needed to be.
Place the 4 adhesive bumpers on the bottom of the large section of plastic near the corners.
Place the third piece of velcro with adhesive backing on the top side of the piece farthest from you. Centered left and right. Close to the far edge.
Stick the 22 inch hook velcro to the two velcro pieces an the bottom of the large piece. Finished!
