How to Make a Friendship Bracelet

1.jpg

Hey there guys. This is an instructable on how to create a friendship bracelet from scratch. This is essentially the most basic version of a friendship bracelet.

Step 1: Measuring How Much Strings You Need

You need at least three different segments of knots to create a friendship bracelet. First measure each segment to the length of your outstretched arm. It is good practice to have a little extra thread because you can always adjust it later to match your needs.

Step2: the Knot

Tie the three threads into a simple knot as shown in the pictures.

Be sure to leave plenty of loose thread at the top so that you can tie in the bracelet later to form a circular shape that will fit inside a wrist.

Step 3: Fastening the Threads

After tying the knot and clamp it onto something heavy and pin it to something heavy. I’m using my iPad and keyboard to act as weights so that it won’t come off when I am braiding the threads. Alternatively, a safety pin may also be used to connect it to something stable.

Step 4: the Braid

For the purpose of this instructable I will refer to this instructable, ill call the blue thread in the far left the main thread and the other 1 and 2 going from left to right.

Take the main thread in your left hand and thread one in your right. Cross the main thread over thread one, forming a knot like in image 4, then drag the main thread under and around thread one.

ensure the knot forms at the top of the bracelet. Keep the principle thread and move on to thread 2. Complete the same process here of knotting the principle twice. You have now completed your first line.

Step 5: Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

Now that we have completed one rotation of the first line, thread 1 will now be the main thread.

Working left to right, continue in the same pattern. Be sure to tie the knots tight so that they can be arranged neatly and repeat until your bracelet has reached an appropriate length.

Use another thread to measure the required length by wrapping it around your wrist.

Step 6: Tie Off

Once the bracelet has reached the desired length, collect the principle and threads 1 and 2 in your hand and tie them off close to where you reach the end of the pattern.

Step 7: Tie the Loop

Either tie a loop on the other end or just tie another knot

leaving enough space for the threads to slip over the fastener and hold the bracelet together. Finally cut off the excess knots, then secure the ends with a tape so it won’t fray out. Your bracelet is complete!
