Super Simple Wire Necklace

Do you have some single, lonely earrings laying around, longing for love? Tell those babies to put down the jumbo barrel of cookie dough ice-cream and put on their sexy pants, because it's time to get back out there and turn some heads!

Now, I do like the look of pretty, shiny things, but I also like the look of old industrial things. This necklace is a very simple, easy piece to start with if you are interested in Steam Punk, or Garage Chic, which I may have just made up, but if it isn't a thing, it should be...

Gather Your Supplies

For this project you will need:

Wire snips

Needle nose pliers (or any pliers you can curve metal around)

18 GA General Purpose Tie-Wire (which I've only ever seen in one color, dirty-brownish-grey, but that works perfectly for the look I want. You can get colored wire, or shiny wire, at most craft stores if that's what you would prefer.)

A single earring, or brooch, or pendant. I used an earring because I love this one and want to keep wearing it.

Cut and Shape Wire

Cut the wire longer than you want your necklace to be. I used about 22" of wire to begin with.

Twist the wire to make a loop on one end.

Cut the extra wire and adjust the end with your pliers so it rests on the necklace without having any sharp edges poking up.

Twist the other end in the same direction as the first, on the other side. Make sure the curves are facing the same direction so they clasp together smoothly. Leave this end open slightly, so it can slide through the other hoop to close.

You can make it shorter by cutting off more of the one side, just re-loop the end when you are finished.

Smooth Wire and Add Pendant

This wire is extremely pliable. You can achieve a smooth circle by pulling it through your fingers a few times.

Any kink you get in it can be smoothed out by rolling it firmly with your fingers.

Remove your earring from it's hook by opening the jump ring with needle nose pliers.

Slide the open jump ring onto the wire and close it firmly with the pliers.

Voila! Garage Chic.... Which I just Googled and got pictures of some really beautiful garages...
