Super Simple DIY Raised Bed Garden Made of Fence Pickets

Hi, this is my raised bed garden for this growing season. It is getting warmer in Canada and my sprouts are ready for going outside. I usually use bucket to grow veggie and flowers. This year I wanted to extend the size and a raised bed garden is perfect for it. This bed has to be
- Simple but flexible design to build with basic tools (drill and screw driver)
- Environment friendly (wood, minimum left over material)
- Pocket friendly (big bang for the buck)
So, let get to it
Supplies

It a very simple bed made of fence pickets which are cheap an robust.
I want to grow vegie and eat them so cedar fence picket is the best option (no chemicals)
If you need for flowers only then you can opt for treated wood fence picket for a cheaper price
I asked the store to cut the wood for me. For this 3'x5' bed I need 4 times of 1"x6"x8' and 1 time of 2"x4"x10' for the posts. I cut the posts longer so they can be buried into the ground and keep them stable. You can also modify the plan for 2'x6' for example with the same amount of material. You will need some wood screws also.
As you can see in the cut list, we will use almost all the wood, nothing wasted
Assemble the Long Sides

Then we can assemble the long side of the bed. We will need 2 green boards of 1"x6"x5' and 3 posts for each side. Predrill holes will save the wood from cracking. Reinforced post will be put in the middle of the long side.
Attach the Short Sides

Mount the 2 cyan boards of 1"x6"x3' on each ends of the long sides to form a rectangle bed.
Add the Chicken Net (optional)

The step is optional, I added the chicken wire to stop animal to dig under the bed. You can also add landscaping fabric to stop the weed. I don’t need it here.
Settle in the Garden

You need to dig 6 holes on the ground to bury the posts. They will keep the bed stable for a long time.
We filled it with old branches and compost soil.
Grow Grow Grow Your Bed

We moved all the sprouts to the bed. You can also paint it like my kids did.
Happy havesting!
