Super Simple Any Flavor Hard or Soft Toffee
This is an easy candy recipe that is fun and exciting to make. The finished product can be shaped into whatever shapes you like and can be flavored almost any way. Even a novice like me can complete this candy recipe and still have a tasty treat that can be given as a gift.
Ingredients
To make about 800 g of toffee you'll need
2 1/2 cups white sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup corn syrup
1 1/3 cups water
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 singles packs (500ml) of water flavoring (crystal lite, kool aid, Gatorade)
a little extra butter for greasing pan, hands, and counter top.
equipment:
1 big pot capable of holding all ingredients
stove
small cup with cold water in it
rubber spoon or scrapper
counter top
a friend to help stretch toffee (you can do it yourself but it takes longer)
2 small greased pans or one large greased pan.
scissors,knife,or hammer.
2 1/2 cups white sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup corn syrup
1 1/3 cups water
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 singles packs (500ml) of water flavoring (crystal lite, kool aid, Gatorade)
a little extra butter for greasing pan, hands, and counter top.
equipment:
1 big pot capable of holding all ingredients
stove
small cup with cold water in it
rubber spoon or scrapper
counter top
a friend to help stretch toffee (you can do it yourself but it takes longer)
2 small greased pans or one large greased pan.
scissors,knife,or hammer.
Combine and Boil Mixture
Combine all the ingredients Except the flavoring in the big pot and set it on the stove to boil, stir constantly. Once the mixture starts to cook down take a small amount of the mixture and put a drop or to into the cold water. If it forms a globule then take it out and taste it, if it is soft enough to be chewy then the result will be soft taffy, if you want hard candies cook longer until the mixture becomes brittle in the water. If it does not form a globule then keep cooking until it thickens up a bit. Next add the flavoring powder and then pour the candy into the greased pan(s) to cool a bit. When the candy is cool enough to handle the fun can begin.
Stretch Toffee
Next you and your helper need to butter your hands to ensure the toffee doesn't stick. Next take the toffee out of the pans and begin to stretch it. Pull it between you the squish it back together and repeat. Do this until the toffee lightens and gets firmer. Now you can either cut the toffee up and form it into whatever shapes you want or roll it into little balls, either way wrap or place the candies in (on) wax paper.
Enjoy!
Now you have a choice either eat your homemade candies or package them up for a gift. Either way someone will get to enjoy these tasty treats. There all done. Be careful if you bite it you can easily remove filling or crowns.
