Quick and easy Halloween spiders made with only a few simple components. They make for a great enhancement to any Halloween scene and look awesome hanging in artificial webs.

Supplies

  • 8 paper straws
  • 2 plastic Easter eggs
  • 1 push pin
  • hot glue gun with glue
  • at least 2 colors of paint (I used spray paint on the body + black and white acrylic for the eyes)

The Main Body

For this step it will help to have your glue as hot as possible. This will help heat the plastic eggs and make the pin easier to push through.

  1. Take the small half of an egg and add a dab of glue a small distance above the inner rim. Carefully push the pin through the glue and the egg from the inside. You can use the tip of the glue gun to further warm and soften the end of the egg if you need to.
  2. Add a dab of glue to either end of a whole egg and then push it onto the pin of the half egg, joining them together. Use as much glue as you need to reinforce it and then give it a minute to cool.

The Legs

  1. Bend each straw about a thumbnails length from the top. Add a dab of glue to the bent end of the straw and secure it into place on the underside of the half egg. repeat for each straw, ending with a group of four straws on each side of the half egg.
  2. For each leg, pinch and bend the leg about a quarter of the way down, then again about a quarter of the way up from the other end. (It's easiest to do this after all the legs are in, but I've provided an example pic of an unattached leg)
  3. To pose the legs, add a dab of glue to the inside of each bend and hold until the glue hardens.
  4. To finish each leg add glue to the opening of each end. Wait a few seconds so you don't burn your fingers, then pinch the end closed for a few more seconds. (You can use craft glue for this part if you want to)

The Eyes

To make the eyes just carefully add a bead of glue for however many eyes you want. give it a few minutes to cool before pulling off any stringing.

Painting Your Spider

  1. Any paint will do but taking it outside and spraying it is the quickest way to add layers of different colors. (On the orange spider, I hand sprayed a streak of yellow, then placed two sheets of paper towel on top and sprayed black through the slit between the sheets to make stripes)
  2. To paint the eyes, simply dab on another color and then add a dot of white to finish it off.
