Super Easy Bead and Charm Earrings

IMG_5959.JPG

Hello! Welcome! I hope that you are having a fabulous day :)

In this Instructable I'm going to teach you how to make your own pair of BEAUTIFUL charm earrings. I have only been making earrings for a little bit over a year, but have my own business where I sell them (and some other things). These earrings are inexpensive and easy to make, and also a ton of fun (for the most part) so without further ado...

Let's get started!!!

Gather Supplies

For this project you will need:

  • Two Eye Pins (if you don't have eye pins then a piece of wire will work, you'll just have to make an extra loop)
  • Needle Nose Pliers (these don't need to be fancy, I starting making earrings with pliers that cost less than $1.50)
  • Wire Cutters (the sharper the better)
  • Two Earring Hooks (you can also make these out of wire, but I prefer store bought)
  • Two Charms (flowers, angels, turtles, it doesn't matter!)
  • Beads (My favorite part of making earrings is arranging the beads. Don't be afraid to mix certain shapes and sizes!)
  • Patience (I'm serious here. Have you ever arranged a perfect pair of earrings and are closing the very last loop when the eye pin snaps and you have to redo the whole earring?!)

Arrange Your Design

This is the most fun part of earring making in my opinion. What you need to do is gather your beads and experiment with different arrangements. Dare to be unique! These are your earrings so you decide what pattern you want. Once you have a design that you like you are ready to move on to assembling the earrings.

String Your Beads

When making earrings I like to create one earring at a time, so that's how I'll be teaching you to do it. So you now have your earring design and it's time to put those beads on an eye pin! If you don't like how they look on the pin or start to have second thoughts just go back to the previous step and reevaluate your design.

Cut Your Pin

Take your beaded eye pin in one hand and your clippers in the other. Now cut the excess pin so that you only have 1/2 to 3/4 inches of excess pin.

Bend Your Pin

Alrighty...now you're on to starting your loop. For this step all you need to do is bend your excess eye pin back like so: (see above picture)

The Loop

Now that your pin is bent back what you need to do is take your needle nose pliers and start to make a loop. To do this you should start at the very end of the pin and slowly roll it into a loop formation. When you're done it should look like this: (see above pictures)

Open the Loop and Add the Charm

So now you want to open the loop you just made so you can slide the charm on (if the charm has a jump ring on it you should take it off) IMPORTANT: Never open a loop by unrolling it! Always swing it open by grabbing the partially open end and swinging it towards you or away from you. Once you have an opening, slip on the charm and move on to the next step.

Close the Loop

I always think of this step as "closing the gate". You've already opened the "gate" and slid the charm on so now you need to close the gate back into it's starting position.

Open the Other Loop and Slip on the Hook

Open the other loop like you just did when attaching the charm. Add the hook. It's important to look to make sure that the hook is facing the right way so that the charm won't be backwards when you're wearing the earring.

Close the Loop

This step is pretty much self explanatory at this point. Look at step #8 if you need help :)

Repeat!

Now that you have one earring made, just repeat the steps to make the other!

Enjoy!!!

Your wonderful earrings are now done. You can keep them or give them as a gift, it's totally up to you. Congratulations!

Tip: As I may have already mentioned, earrings make a super cute gift. Here's how I like to give them as gifts: (above)
