Super Easy Automatic Door Closer

IMG_9043.jpg

A simple way to close your door using only 3 things. It uses a pulley and gravity to close your door every time it is opened. It is very small and can be removed if necessary.

What You Need

You will only need 3 things for this:

2 hooks, I used some with nails but double sided sticky tape should work as well. Eye hooks also work but are more fiddly as you have to thread through the whole length.

A water bottle, 600ml is more than enough and doesn't need to be completely full as higher weights pull of the hooks sometimes. It also doesn't need to be filled with water as it could be filled with sand or something else. You could also use any other type of weight as long as it is roughly the same weight.

Some string, string, twine and fishing line all work.

Equipment:

Scissors

Attaching the Hooks

Attach one of the hooks in the top corner of the door, opposite the hinges. It must face downwards as the string will hook upwards going to the second hook.

The second hook should go in the corner next to the other hook but on the frame not the door. This hook should be facing up as the string will hook over it. If you want it out of the way more you can place it on the top of the door frame. This makes it more hidden if you take off the door closer.

Tying the String

Take the end of the string and tie it in a loop. This end will go around the hook on the door and then loop over the other hook on the door frame.

Don't cut the end of the string yet

Tying the Water Bottle

Place the water bottle on the floor and let the string hang down to it. Then cut the string halfway down the bottle. This should leave enough room to tie the string around the plastic bottle or other weight. Tie the string around the neck of the bottle bellow the cap and do a double not so it is strong. The bottle should be in the air when you let go of it.

You're Done

You're done.

Pull open the door and watch as it closes all by it's self.
