Summer Puzzle Project
Like many, quarantine gave me a lot of free time in which I could do nothing and would easily bore. Because of this, I took up the hobbies of making puzzles and designing objects on Fusion 360. I combined my hobbies to make a cube that could be a fun conversation starter.
Supplies
- Fusion 360
- 3D Printer
Market Research
Many puzzle cubes exist on the market, however they cost upwards of $15. Because of this, I came up with the idea to create my own using 3D printed parts.
Prototype
The easiest way to create a model that functioned was to design one out of half-inch wooden cubes. It was a physical way to see and understand how the puzzle went together.
Fusion 360
After prototyping a model out of the wooden blocks, I was able to take the dimensions and create a 3D model in Fusion 360 that could be milled or 3D printed. This step included creating lots of squares and extruding them to varying heights.
Print and Play
Now that the model is printed out, you can now struggle over how to put it together. Invite your friends to try and see who can complete it the fastest. The idea behind the puzzle is for it to be simple so you can explain to everyone how you made it and how you could make more.
