For our September Build Night with Sugru at Phoenix Asylum (Boulder, CO), I have decided to build a pair of Magnetic Helping Hands. I am also remixing an Instructable by BeeAmaker and their Magnetic Base Helping Hands. I have simplified BeeAmaker's project a bit to create a flexible working platform. I am using a few parts I had on hand, as well as the Sugru provided by Instructables.com. These helping hands can also be used secure notes or photos to your refrigerator.
Items Needed:
- 1 small pack of Sugru - Sugru site
- 2 magnetic darts with Neodymium magnets - Amazon
- 2 pieces of flexible insulated wire
- 2 alligator clips - Amazon
- Wire clippers
- Hammer
- Small nail

- Cut the fletching (or feathers) off of your magnetic darts.
- Cut your wire to a desired length.
- Hammer a small nail into the plastic end of the magnet.
- Clip your wire and insert it into the hole you just created.

Clean your hands and use a clean work surface. I used a piece of copy paper for this part and recycled it after I finished.
- Open your pack of Sugru.
- Knead the ball for at least 30 seconds.
- Divide in to two equal parts and roll it out to about the size of a pencil.
- Flatten the Sugru and set your Helping Hand onto it.
- Now spread your Sugru until you have covered everything evenly and smoothed it out so that it has a finished appearance.
It's that easy. I now have a flexible and strong pair of Helping Hands. Did I mention that they are really strong?
Other project that I built using Sugru.
