Sugar Painting
In this project, I tried to create art using melted sugar which didn't end up working out due to time constraints. Unfortunately, the attempts to recreate this art in 40 minutes are listed below.
Supplies
Attempt # 1
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar 1/2 Cup White Sugar 1/4 Cup Malt Sugar 1/4 Cup Water Attempt # 2 1 Cup White Sugar 1/4 Cup Water Attempt # 3 1 Cup White Sugar 2/3 Cup Brown Sugar 1/2 Cup Water
Attempt 1:
Here I used equal amounts of brown and white sugar and added half that of malt sugar and water. Unfortunately it turned out to form more of a honey texture, with the paintings not hardening at all.
Attempt 2:
On my second try, I decided to use only white sugar and water, however, while the mixture was easier to pour and to shape, it ended up crumbling when I broke off a piece to eat.
Attempt 3:
On my final attempt, I decided to take out only the malt sugar, and to use more brown sugar, however throughout the boiling process, I added almost 2/3 cups more white sugar, to have it equal out to one cup, and a little bit more water to prevent crystals from forming on the edges of the pan. This recipe turned out well, and I was able to get solid shapes that were almost completely solid, just a little sticky, and wasn't quite as stable as I would have liked. A quick hour in the freezer helped to make the paintings even more solid and durable. Unfortunately, this still didn't work, as I wasn't able to let the sugar boil for long enough to for it to fully melt and dissolve.
