Cover Picture - Instructables.jpg

In this instructable, I will show you how to make a desk shelf out of styrofoam that you may find in packages. This project is easy to make and useful in everyday life. It is customizable which means you can design and really make it yours.

Supplies

  • 3 pieces of styrofoam
  • A ruler
  • A knife
  • Kabob Sticks

Making the Walls

Step 1.jpg

I cut two 4" by 13" pieces of foam that are 1/2" thick to make up my walls of the desk shelf. I marked the pieces with a marker and used a knife to cut them.

Making the Shelf Portion

Step 2.jpg

For the shelf portion of the desk shelf, I used a thicker piece of styrofoam that is the same length as the walls except that it is an 1" thicker. I used a knife and ruler to measure and cut the piece.

Putting It Together

Step 3.jpg

I placed the styrofoam piece that would be the shelf portion horizontally approximately 4" above the bottom of the walls. I used a kabob skewer to make the pieces stick together and hold their shape.

That is it! The desk shelf is now finished. I use it myself to hold papers and so far it has held up well.

Putting the Top On

Step 4.jpg

I cut a 4" by 13" piece of styrofoam that would be the roof, I cut the styrofoam from a thinner piece of styrofoam. I used the kabob skewer to connect the walls and the top.

Put It to Use
