Stylish Globe Pendant Light From Recycled Groceries Carton

Light fixtures can be quite expensive, so what about a stylish globe pendant light with almost no costs, from material you probably already have in the house, ready for the skip. I made a light fixture from waste carton and a piece of tracing paper I found in the box with my new shoes.
Supplies

You will need
- Some groceries ( or other) carton boxes
- Some tracing paper
- Pencil
- Pair of compasses or round shape approx. 5 cm
- Paper glue
- Hot glue gun
- Some bowl with circular inside ( no flat bottom)
- A pair of scissors
- A hole punch with mallet or circle cutter or small pointy scissors
- Iron wire 15 cm
- Round nose pliers
- Socket with electric cord and lamp
Making Circles

I used a small round lid from a herbs jar to draw circles on the carton. Cut them out. I used the off-white inside for outside of the lampshade. You can also choose to do the colored side on the outside. Some of the color on the inside will shine through when the lamp is lit.
Cut Holes

Cut holes in the circles of 3 cm. I used a hole punch with mallet, but you could use a circle cutter or small scissors. You will need part of the centre circles in step 6 of the instructable.
Glue Transparant Windows

Cut circles of a more or less transparent paper, tracing paper, or as in my case tissue paper saved out of shoebox packaging. the circles should be the same size or a bit smaller than the rings.Glue them on the rings with a simple paper glue
Create Top Ring

Cut a circle of approx.10-12 cm out of carton and remove the centre leaving a big ring approx 2 cm wide. With less sturdy carton it may be wise to double the ring.
Contruct Globe

Now you will need a salad bowl, strainer, pan or half ball the right size for your light*. If possible a real half globe shape inside without a flat bottom. I found a strainer in my kitchen that fits the bill. Place the big center ring at the bottom and using little tabs glue the smaller rings following the shape of your bowl. It is possible to do this mathematical symmetrical but I deliberately chose to place them at random leaving smaller and bigger gaps. When half of the globe is done slide it to one side and go on adding rings. The last pieces are placed making the globe as round as possible.
- see end of instructable
Fill Gaps

With the smaller circles, witch were left over making the rings fill in the bigger gaps. Leave smaller gaps open
Attach Socket

Bend a small piece of wire as can be seen in the photo's or the video. Place the socket with cord in the center C shape and pierce the end of the wire trough the big ring at te top. Bend the end on the inside of the globe to keep them in place. Put in a lamp and plug in. You have got yourself new light!
Be brave and use a wok for a flying saucer shape, single or double. Or a cone shape, a cilinder, your favorite vase. Possibilities are endless
