Strong Repair Almost Any Broken Plastic
What do the doctor do when you have a bone fracture? Probably will use a screw, needle or pin.
In this instructable I use a pin and a solder to make a strong fix of almost any broken thing in just a couple of minutes. In this case as you see is the very breakable computer keyboard leg, fixed in just 10'.
Usual things you could fix this way:
- Eyeglasses Hinge
- Ethernet Plug
Toots and Materials
We'll need:
Electronic solder
A needle or pin (Hey! Ho! Let's go)
Needle-nose pliers
Optional: Superglue (AKA instant glue or strong fast-acting adhesive, cyanoacrylate based)
Optional: Mini lathe (Dremel or similar)
Glue the Parts
Just glue the plastic parts as you always do. As you might notice no matter how good you do it or the quality of your cyanoacrylate adhesive (CA), the union will never be as solid as it was before it was broken. So next...
Melt a Pin Into the Plastic
Carefully put the needle or pin over the plastic to join. A needle-nose pliers could help.
With the solder touch the pin (not the plastic) for a few seconds so will melt into the plastic.
Sanding for Tidiness (optional)
Sanding edges to make it neater. You can use a rasp or a mini lathe.
Conclusion and External Links
Even this is a very simple and generic technique I couldn't find it on Instructalbes.
I try some other techniques but this one seems to make very solid and durable joins, making any plastic even stronger than it was before.
