Strawberry Sauce (Compote)
In this instructable I will show you how to make a yummy strawberry sauce or compote that can be used with pancakes, waffles, crepes, cheesecake, ice cream, etc. This strawberry sauce compote recipe is very easy to make using just a few ingredients, and tastes so much better then any store bought sauce. Next time you make pancakes or waffles make sure to make some homemade strawberry sauce to go along with it. If I can do it you can do it, let's get started!

Strawberries, Sugar, Juice
First let's wash and cut up our strawberries. I usually just cup them up into quarters. Place them in a sauce pot, then add the sugar and the lemon or orange juice. Orange zest or lemon zest can be added as well for more flavor. :)
On the Stovetop
Now lets turn the heat to our burner on to medium heat and start to cook down those strawberries. The sugar will dissolve and start to form a syrup. Make sure to stir occasionally with a spoon.
Cornstarch
Now after about 5 minutes of cooking, the mixture will be fairly runny. Let's thicken it up with our cornstarch. Add the cornstarch to the water and use a fork to mix it together. Then pour the cornstarch into the pot.
Heating and Stirring
Now we need to keep heating and stirring for a few minutes while the cornstarch does its thing. After a few minutes you will notice your mixture thicken up. Now it is done! Also the mixture will thicken up more as it cools down. You can use it as is with the strawberry chunks or for a finer mixture run it through a blender.
Blend and Serve
I decided to blend mine up to get a nice smooth texture. Place that yummy strawberry sauce into a bowl and serve it with pancakes, waffles, cheesecake, crepes, ice cream, etc. :) Drop a comment down below and let me know what you would put it on. :) Enjoy!
