I have never had Strawberry Pie. Ever. So I decided to make it. I have made apple pie before, so how hard could it be? To be honest it isn't hard. It is actually easier than the apple pie because in the apple pie it takes FOREVER to peel and slice the apples and you have to use soo much apples too! This does involve slicing but the strawberries are smaller and they also don't need to be peeled. Also the Strawberry Pie is much more good looking than the apple pie because of the red color. Anyway, lets get started on making this AMAZING STRAWBERRY PIE! :)

Gather You Ingredients

To make this pie you will need:

πŸ“A smiling face :)

πŸ“2.5 cups of flouer

πŸ“A pinch of salt

πŸ“Powdered Sugar for decorating (Optional)

πŸ“A mixing bowl or stand mixer

πŸ“About 1 cup of COLD water

πŸ“6 TBSP of Butter (Chilled)

πŸ“About 5 cups of Strawberries (washed and fresh)

πŸ“1/4 cup of Cornstarch

πŸ“3/4 cups of granulated sugar

πŸ“2 TBSP of Olive Oil

πŸ“1 1/4 cup of warm water

1. Get your bowl and a sifter and sift the flower to get all the clumps out. Than add a little bit of salt and add it to the mix. Then mix it a little to with a fork.

2. Add the butter. The butter should not be to cold but not melted. Put it in the microwave for about 3 seconds NO MORE THAN THAT and then add it to the mix all at once.

3. Now get a fork and and combine the butter with the flour by pushing. (Refer to the picture above) And then use your hands to make it into crumbs

(Note: I do not recommend using a stand mixer for the crust because it makes the dough more clumpy. I used to use one but after I started using my hands the dough has become softer and easier to work with)

4.Start adding the COLD WATER 1 TBSP at a time and mixing. You may not have to use all the water or you may need more. But note that the dough should be a little hard, not as soft as bread dough, though.

If you need more preference try this link that helped me start with making pie crust. Note my recipe is a little different than the one in the link. You can pick which recipe to use depending on your liking.

Freeze Dough Balls

After you have finished with your dough roll it into a ball and than cut it in half. Get some plastic wrap and cover them both with plastic wrap. Then put in the freezer for about 20-30 minutes. Make sure to cover them with plastic wrap all over and not let them get dirty.

Strawberries

The strawberries are fairly easy. In simplest terms: Wash, remove the green, cut into thin strips, then measure until you get about 5 cups worth of strawberries. After you have finished out them in a bowl and squeeze half a lemon over them. Just make sure to wash them SUPER well to get put all the dirt and germs out. Than put the strawberries to a side.

Putting the Dough in the Platter

Get the dough out of the freezer and then roll it out to make it the size of the platter you plan to use. It will take a while for you to get it the size of the platter if it is big a little like mine. For extra decoration get a fork and press it against the sides. Make sure to only use ONE of the dough balls for this step and save the other one for later.

Strawberries in a Pan

Put the oven level on high and add the strawberries until they have lost some of their water. Make sure they don't get any brown on them. If you are using a small sauce pan then do them in turn.

Sugar and Cornstartch

In a big pot put 1 1/4 cup of water, 3/4 cup of sugar, and the 1/4 cup of cornstarch. Don't have the water be boiling only warm when you add it. Put the level on high. Make sure to keep mixing it even when it is in the pot to get out all the clumps. It should have a thicker consistency than milk.

Add the Strawberries

In the liquid that should have been made in a big pot add the strawberries. The liquid should still be boiling when you add in the strawberries. Lower the level down to medium and keep mixing the strawberries for about 3-5 minutes.

Drain the Strawberries

Get a colander and drain all the liquid out of the strawberries. Don't have all the liquid go to waste in the sink but put a bowl under the colander and keep the liquid to use in the future for smoothies or other deserts. Then put the strawberries to cool down completely.

Make the Lattice Top

When the strawberries have cooled down completely add them to the pie tray. Then roll out the other pie dough ball and cut it into strips. Then with the first strips of dough add the longest ones in the middles and the shorter one on the side. Then to make the lattice formation go over the first one under the next. Keep going with that until you are done.

Bake the Pie

When you have finished the lattice shape. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees fahrenheit. When the oven is preheated put the pie on the bottom rack for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees fahrenheit and put the pie on the middle rack for 30 minutes. Making sure to check on it for every 5 minutes.

Pi Symbol (Optional)

Screenshot 2021-03-08 at 12.46.22 PM.png

To make the Pi Symbol, take some of the dough and roll it out. Make it into a Pi shape and then bake it along with a pie. When it has cooled down add some Nutella, or other chocolate spread, spread it on the Pi symbol and then put powdered sugar all over it. That's it, you are done with the Pi symbol! :)

BON APPETIT!

I hope you enjoy making this pie and eating it! It really is great! I added the pie symbol for this competition and also because it looks really good with a strawberry keeping it in place. I also must apologize for talking in caps some of the time. But that was because I had to emphasize how important those steps were. Have fun eating this pie and making it. Share this with your friends and if you make it show it off to the world!
