Storage Unit for Things We Constantly Lose

Being a person who misplaces everything, not knowing were you placed your belongings just as you want to leave the door, can get really frustrating. Not knowing were you left your keys last night or rushing to find your zip card so you can get to work. Making an area in you house only for someone to come and move your stuff. These situations make me so angry. Having my own designated area will keep my belongings in a safe place and help me remember where I left what I need for my day out.

Laser Cutting Pieces

Using the laser cutter helped with the process of building the storage unit. I first began making a card model for my chosen design to generate profiles of each piece so I could laser cut them. I laser cut the divider from acrylic and the base and the box from plywood.

Putting the Plywood Pieces Together

I first spray painted the laser cut parts yellow that would make the box part of the storage unit. I then used PVA glue to stick the pieces together to make a box. laser cutting box corner joints help makes a more accurate shape box.

Attaching the Divider

Next was step was glueing the yellow acrylic sheet onto the storage unit. This piece will act as a divider so I can keep my belongings organised. I used epoxy resin to glue the acrylic to the wooden storage unit. using epoxy is better that PVA as it has a stronger bond when attaching. Make sure the divider was perpendicular to the base.

Gluing the Barriers

After gluing the divider, I decided to glue on the barriers using PVA glue. These barriers are used so belongings don't fall of the storage unit and get lost. I used clamps to hold the barriers in place while the glue drys.

Adding the Back Panel

The last step is to attach the back panel to the storage unit. I used PVA glue and clamps to hold it in place while it was drying.

Fill the Storage Unit

Now that the storage unit is finished, I only need to put all the things I want to keep safe in my storage unit. I put keys, school lanyard and wallet because I know I lose these items frequently.
