Storage Box / Digital Dice for Blind and Deaf People (micro Bit)

images.jpg

I made a storage box for your micro bit and it also functions as a digital dice. Everyone can use it, including blind and deaf people who also want to play a dice game.

Supplies

  1. Laser cutter
  2. Wood for your laser cutter
  3. Laptop
  4. website (boxes.py) & (makecode.microbit.org)
  5. Micro bit

Measure

Measure your micro bit on all sides. Go to the website "boxes.py" and then click on "closedbox" now you can enter your measurements.

My measurements from the picture are 17.5 x 8 x 11 cm.

You can now download the measurements you just entered and then print them out with your laser cutter.

Cut Out Parts for Your Micro Bit

Take your micro bit and make sure the two buttons and the leds are nicely marked on one side of your box. and you are now going to saw these out so that your micro bit fits nicely in (see photo).

I sawed them out by first drilling a small hole and then sawing them out further with a jigsaw where necessary. And then you can file where necessary.

Just Glue It

Once I cut out the holes I glued all the sides down outside the lid so it would still be a nice storage box.

Programming

To make it function as a real dice, some programming is still needed on the website "makecode.microbit.org".

Look at the picture.

Button A: This one is for people who can see, this shows the number rolled.

Button B: This shows the number rolled and also gives beeps, these are equal to the number rolled.

Button A&B: This clears the screen.

Tips

1200x1125.jpg
  1. File the edges of the box lid for smooth use.
  2. If you want to use it as a storage box, put all the stuff from your micro bit in the box and put a small piece of paper over the hole so that nothing falls out. (this is normally in the micro bit itself)
  3. You can decorate the box if you want.
